St. Jude’s: A Mentor Academy

St. Jude’s: A Mentoring Academy is the supportive arm of SJSH for students with diagnosed or undiagnosed academic, social, and minor behavioural needs (e.g., ADHD, ASD Level 1). We operate five dedicated classrooms, each intentionally smaller than our Scholars’ Hall classes and each with Educational Assistant (EA) support in place throughout the day. Serving learners from Grade 1 through high school, placement is guided by readiness and learning needs—not just age—so students can work at an appropriate pace with clear routines and expectations.

Teachers and EAs coach foundational literacy and numeracy, executive-function skills (organization, planning, working memory), social communication, and self-regulation within a calm, predictable environment. Every student has a School Plan (IEP) that identifies strengths and areas of need and outlines the strategies we use consistently across subjects. Our mentoring approach emphasizes explicit teaching, guided practice, and frequent feedback to build confidence and independence. As skills strengthen, students transition—course by course or full-time—into our Scholars’ Hall classes, with supports scaled to ensure a successful move.

Begin by calling SJSH to book a tour and request to be placed on the waitlist for St. Jude’s. We will want to meet and get to know your family while you get to know our programs and supports. We’ll talk about your child’s strengths, interests, and needs and outline how we can help.
