HeadStart is SJSH’s August summer program for students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, designed to give a genuine jump on the new school year by previewing the material they’ll encounter in the first months. Registration opens in the winter, and the program welcomes children from both SJSH’s day school and student from public, catholic, or other private schools. Led by many of our day-school teachers, mornings focus on the core subjects—Math and English—to refresh fundamentals, strengthen skills, and build confidence. Afternoons switch to Social Studies and Science in a relaxed, summer-camp style with weekly themes, hands-on activities, and plenty of opportunities for curiosity and collaboration.
By introducing key concepts early and establishing productive routines—organization, study habits, and classroom expectations—HeadStart helps students return in September ready to learn from day one. Families consistently tell us their children start the year more settled, more confident, and better prepared.
